Scientifically amphetamines are a group of drugs that stimulates the central nervous system. They were synthesized for the first time in 1887 and their chemical structure resemble the adrenaline and noradrenaline, stimulants produced by the human body. Due to the fact that have euphoric effects, amphetamines are popular among those who want to improve performance in sport, to increase endurance, to reduce tiredness, etc.
Apparently amphetamines have the same effect on the human body like adrenalin. On the street they are known as “uppers”, “bennies”, “beans”, “speed”, “crank”, etc. Can be found like pills, powder or crystals and can be ingested orally, injected, sniffed, or smoked. If you have an addiction to methamphetamine, there is help available.
There are three main types: amphetamine sulphate, more commonly known as “Speed”(also known by its trade name, Benzedrine); dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine or “Dexy’s Midnight Runners”); and methamphetamine (Methedrine or “Meth”), the most potent of the three.
On the street can be found in various forms. Most of these drugs come in the form of a crystal powder or paste, and in distinct colors, like brown, orange, reddish, due to impurities and to the methods of synthesis. Larger and purer crystals are sometimes available but these are usually primarily for cooking up and injecting. There are also a lot of illegally manufactured pills, some of them sold as Ecstasy rather than as speed.
A highly addictive type is “ice”, known also as “crystal meth” or “glass.” Originary from Hawaii, ice is a smokeable freebase form of methamphetamine, it comes in larger crystals or rocks, and, when smoked, its effects are comparable to crack in intensity but are much longer lasting.
One of the worse form is the one called “speed”, notorious for it’s impurity. Usually, the average one gram found on the street contains 10% amphetamine and 90% adulterant, which could be anything from vitamin C powder, glucose powder, caffeine, flour and baby milk, in the best cases.
Amphetamines are class B prescription and doctors can prescribe them to patients legally, but, unfortunately, they are used by drug dealers at a large scale. We strongly recommend to everyone reading this article to stay out of amphetamine’s use, however, if you or someone close to you have problems with drug addiction, we suggest you to visit Canada Drug Rehab centers.
