After PARTY!
No matter of nation, country or culture, there is a habit to share a drink together. Drinking is common in society, be it a party, a special ocasion or, pure and simple, a meeting with friends. However, this doesn’t mean, for many of us, that we have a drinking problem. One can be named alcoholic when he is physically dependant on alcohol and can not control the amount he drinks.
Social drinking is very popular all over the world. A glass of wine or beer while eating is common in many houses or restaurants. Weddings, birthdays, are usually celebrated with a glass of champagne. Going out for a drink after work is considered a normal way to end the day.
But there is a huge difference between social drinking and alcohol abuse. When you get to attend social events only if involve alcohol, if having a drink after work becomes more important than connecting with friends or family, these are symptoms that you are on the path to alcoholism. Unfortunately, driving while drunk and increased violent behavior are very common for people in this situation.
Although one glass will never be a problem, the alcohol abuse is a major problem and the consequences are serious. Alcohol abuse causes damage not only to your own health, but to your loved ones, and to the society where you live. The numerous cases of domestic violence and innocent deaths which come up every year show us how dangerous can be the alcoholism.
Many people don’t realise how devastating alcoholism can be, it affects brain chemistry, the alcoholic feel compelled to drink alcohol, and very rare can stop drinking without help and treatment. Alcohol is a drug, and alcohol abuse is as real as drug abuse. The rehabilitation is as serious as drug reabilitation, and withdrawal can be deadly.
Some people think that if they drink only on the weekends they are not alcoholics. Abstaining from drinking a certain period of time and then consume a large quantity of alcohol in a short time is called binge drinking and it’s a common symptom of alcohol abuse.
Some people think that if they drink only wine or beer they are not alcoholics. Hard liquor is more concentrated, that’s all, but wine or beer have the same effect. They just drink more wine or beer to get drunk. It’s still alcohol abuse.
