drug-rehab-confusedIt can be very easy to brush aside someone who is addicted to drugs.  It can also be very easy to avoid the topic of drug rehab, to help the person who is addicted to drugs.  Why get involved when you can convince yourself their drug addiction problem will go away.  These are problems that face many people who are using drugs and who are witnessing a loved one using drugs.  The first thing most counselors at drug rehab centers will tell you is, do everything possible to help.  What is everything possible? And what if we have tried everything possible?

Everything possible would be family and friends coming to a mutual agreement that everybody involved can comfortably walk away with out any doubt that they have exhausted all options.  The people involved would have to also understand that they could no longer take any more responsibility for their loved ones drug addiction.  Typically if family and friends have reached a point where they have hired a professional interventionist and have either had success getting their loved one into drug rehab, or have followed through with ‘plan B’, you can comfortably say you have exhausted all options.

Getting back to the original question, why get involved?  When a person first starts using drugs, the topic of drug rehab does not come up often, or even right away, but should be discussed either way.  The percentage of people, who introduce themselves to drugs and manage to eliminate it completely from their life, is very low.  When the obvious signs of a drug addiction start appearing, the discussion about drug rehab should come up.  Get involved in the beginning and stay involved until all options have been exhausted without destroying yourself financially and emotionally.

Family and friends involvement is very important when a drug addiction is just starting to take hold.  This is like anything else, if you can address the problem early enough, you can prevent the major problems from occurring.  Most drug rehab professionals will advise people on this.  Handle the problem in the beginning, and then you will not have to face the question, why get involved?  Get involved when it really counts, before the drug addiction takes a turn for the worse, look at all the options in the beginning, and do not wait for it to just go away.
